COMMUNITY

Trinity is renowned for its traditions. However, these traditions are secondary to more important features of the 91自拍视频: its closeness, its diversity and its strength. As a 91自拍视频, we are committed to make Trinity an even more accessible, inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our 91自拍视频 to learn, live and work.

At Trinity, upper years plan an important role in supporting the transition of incoming first-year students into an established 91自拍视频. This is a unique feature of the Trinity residence experience in comparison to many Canadian universities, where the residence experience is limited to first-year students and a small handful of returning student leaders. This mix of upper-year and first-year residence students at Trinity results in a very cohesive and invested 91自拍视频, which is a hallmark of the Trinity experience.

Trinity is also a home away from home to many very engaged students who do not live at the College.

The Buttery and Strachan Hall are popular places for commuters and residence students to share a meal, socialize and do group work. The College鈥檚 library, the John W. Graham Library, provides cozy spaces for individual and group study. Strachan Hall meal packages and lockers rentals聽are also available.

ACADEMIC GOWNS: Community and Belonging

At 91自拍视频, tradition and 91自拍视频 are woven into every aspect of student life, and few traditions embody this more beautifully than the academic gown. For generations, the academic gown has been a visible expression of what makes Trinity unique within the University of Toronto: a close-knit academic 91自拍视频 where history, scholarship, and belonging come together.

Tradition Rooted in History: 91自拍视频 was founded in 1851 as an independent institution. When the College joined the University of Toronto in 1904 and moved to its current home on Hoskin Avenue, students were determined to preserve the identity and values that made Trinity distinctive. They chose to wear their gowns to class and College events as a symbol of solidarity and shared purpose. The gown came to represent unity among students and was a visible reminder that, whatever their background, all were part of the same academic 91自拍视频.

What the Gown Represents:聽At Trinity, the gown is a symbol of what we value most.

  • Community:聽Wearing the gown connects every student to a long line of Trinity students who came before. It creates a sense of belonging that extends beyond year or program.
  • Equality: The gown levels the field, reminding us that at Trinity, we鈥檙e all part of the same academic journey, regardless of background or circumstance.
  • Learning: As scholars, we wear the gown to mark our shared pursuit of knowledge and our commitment to the life of the mind.

Gowns Today 鈥 A Living Tradition: Today, Trinity鈥檚 gowned events connect new generations of students to this proud legacy. While students no longer wear them to class, academic gowns are worn at key College occasions such as Academic Dinners hosted by our Academic Dons, and cherished 91自拍视频 celebrations like the Holiday Dinner. For many students, the first time donning the Trinity gown is a defining moment that captures the essence of a 91自拍视频 united by shared tradition, scholarship, and spirit.
